Statement of Justice and Peace Europe: 

“Truth and justice must be the pillars of post-war justice” 

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2022 the European Conference of Justice and Peace Commissions offers a number of reflections on post-war justice (ius post bellum): With regard to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and its genocidal extent, the Executive Committee of Justice and Peace Europe welcomes the European Parliament's declaration on 23 November 2022 declaring that Russia is a state sponsor of terrorism, and calls for support for the documentation of the crimes, a strengthening of international criminal justice, and that the cost of rebuilding civilian infrastructure must be borne by the perpetrators and not by the victims of the armed conflict. The acting president of Justice and Peace Europe, Mrs Cécile Dubernet emphasizes: "The goal must be a new European and global peace and security system that focuses on the protection of people, their rights and the common good. However, the construction of this new order must in no way be brought about at the expense of the victims. Forgiveness requires the admission of guilt and the willingness to forgive."

Statement von Justitia et Pax Europa: 

„Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit müssen die Säulen der Friedenssicherung nach dem Krieg sein“ 

Anlässlich des Tages der Menschenrechte am 10. Dezember 2022 stellt die Europäische Konferenz der Justitia et Pax-Kommissionen Überlegungen zu einem Recht der Friedenssicherung nach dem Krieg (ius post bellum) an: Mit Blick auf den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine und dessen genozidale Ausmaße begrüßt das Exekutivkommittee von Justitia et Pax Europa, dass das Europäische Parlament am 23. November Russland zu einem staatlichen Sponsor des Terrorismus erklärt hat, und fordert Unterstützung für die Dokumentation der Verbrechen, eine Stärkung der internationalen Strafgerichtsbarkeit und, dass die Kosten für den Wiederaufbau der zivilen Infrastruktur nicht von den Opfern des bewaffneten Konflikts, sondern von den Tätern getragen werden müssen. Die Interimsvorsitzende von Justitia et Pax Europa, Cecile Dubernet, betont: „Ziel muss eine neue europäische und globale Friedens- und Sicherheitsordnung sein, bei der der Schutz der Menschen, ihrer Rechte und des Gemeinwohls im Mittelpunkt steht. Der Aufbau dieser neuen Ordnung darf aber keinesfalls auf Kosten der Opfer erfolgen. Vergebung setzt das Eingeständnis von Schuld und die Bereitschaft zur Vergebung voraus.“
