The Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions is promoting care for Creation as part of its international workshop and general assembly meeting. The gathering, which is themed “On Spiritual Roots and Political Fruits,” is a pilgrimage for justice and peace and care of Creation, 22-25 September. It took place at the Taizé monastic community. Fifty years after the creation of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the European Conference of Justice and Peace Commissions (Justice and Peace Europe) will hold its annual meeting in Taizé/France from 22 to 25 September 2017. 80 delegates from more than twenty national commissions will be welcomed by Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich from Luxembourg, the president of Justice and Peace Europe, and by Brother Alois, the prior of the Taizé Community. Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich, president of Justice and Peace Europe, and Bishop Oscar Cantú, chairman of the US bishops’ Committee on International Justice and Peace, issued today a declaration arguing for “the total elimination of nuclear weapons.” Entitled “Nuclear Disarmament: Seeking Human Security,” the declaration was issued to coincide with the conclusion of a meeting hosted this week by the United Nations “to negotiate a legally binding treaty to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination.” Read the full text of the joint declaration.
