Short historical revue of the Commission
The Austrian Justice and Peace Commission was founded in 1969 by the Austrian Bishops' Conference. Its mission is to promote peace, (social) justice and human rights nationally and globally in cooperation with other church-based and public institutions.

Austria presided over the Conference of the European Justice and Peace Commissions from 1999 until 2002.

In 1995, the Austrian Commission initiated regional neighbourhood Meetings of Central and South-East European commissions which have taken place annually until 2009.
Work priorities in general

• religion, politics and society in a European context
• reconciliation, especially in a Central and South-East European context
• international justice and solidarity

Topics currently treated:

• Round Table against trafficking in women and enforced Prostitution
• Education and training of the social doctrine with Deacons and Multiplicators
(„ambassadors of justice and peace“);
• Ecology and fasting / Meat-abstinence a contribution to climate protection
• Cooperation with the on selected topics.
